Abstract: On May 31, 1985, the Newton Falls and Niles areas of Northeastern Ohio were hit viciously by a tornado. Fourteen people were killed, and over 100 were seriously injured. 190 homes and 30 apartment buildings were destroyed. This paper details the emergency response of the East Ohio Gas Company to this natural disaster. Importantly, through the efforts of all involved, no gas-related explosions or fires occurred during the tornado crisis.
