Abstract: The purpose of this presentation is to put in terms of our everyday language the theory underlying automatic control. The first question one could ask is, What does the word control include? One answer, which incidentally serves as the basis for this paper, defines it as a method of proportioning any variable in accordance with process needs. Along with this thought, too, should go the idea that control aids in the reproducibility of a product, guards its quality. and contributes to process efficiency.
