Abstract: This subject matter is one which, I must confess, had never really occurred to me prior to my being asked to speak to you. There has been a great deal of talk in recent months about public ownership of the electric power industry. I had been giving a fair amount of thought to that subject both as to the probability of an increased scope for public power, as well as to whether there were any possible gains to the public-from such a course of action-but it had never occurred to me that such a prospect might face gas utilities.
