Abstract: All positive displacement meters measure gas in cubic feet at line pressure. Gas is bought and sold at a certain price for each 1,000 cubic feet as if measured by a meter at approximately atmospheric pressure. Therefore, when the gas is measured at pressures above or below atmospheric pressure, the pressure at which each cubic foot is measured and the factor for the pressure must be known in order to convert the quantity indicated by the meter into the quantity which would be measured at the base pressure which is approximately atmospheric pressure. Actual volume measurement displaced volume) is completely independent of the gas specific gravity, temperature and pressure but variations in gas flow is due to changes in pressure and temperature. Because of this, it is necessary to specify the pressure and temperature at which a certain volume is considered as standard these conditions are known as the base pressure and base temperature.
