Abstract: Five years ago people were predicting the end of the internal combustion engine. Despite those disciples of doom the internal combustion engine is not only still here but there is a whole new generation of cieanburning, fuel-efficient internal combustion engines. Experts in the automotive industry say not since the automobile was invented have there been such dramatic changes as during these past few years. The reasons for such change are two unrelated causes, the first being OPEC and the end of cheap energy, the second EPA, ending the era of uncontrolled exhaust emissions.
