Abstract: Distribution systems in most metropolitan areas are, or will be, medium or high pressure systems. Many domestic, commercial, and industrial customers are now requesting gas to be delivered at elevated pressures. When gas is metered at elevated pressures, three methods are generally used in billing to determine the equivalent standard volume. The volume of gas metered is multiplied by a pressure factor to obtain the volume of gas at the base pressure, or the utilization of a base pressure correcting index, or a pressure compensated meter index geared to make the multiplication mechanically. When metering without a base pressure correcting device, accurate billing of gas measured at elevated pressures requires close regulation or control of the gas pressure.
