Abstract: I woTild like to discuss with you how companies may blend OSHA into their existing safety and health program. Through necessity, I will draw on the experience with the company I work for, Tennessee Gas Pipeline, and how we dealt with the OSHA law. As you all know, we are a nation of laws and in particular, the gas industry, with all the federal regulations that we have to comply with. Of course, we have lived with the Federal Power Commission and the Pipeline Safety Act of I968 for years. More recently we have the safety regulations under Department of Transportation, the Construction Safety Act, Environmental Protection Agency, and of course, the Department of Interior and Coast Guard. Then In late 1970, the Occupational Safety and Health Act was signed into law.
