Abstract: Tank gauging is widely used in custody transfer applications. When applied, the liquid measured is a function of tank volume. Most tanks used in custody transfer applications are calibrated by calculating the tanks volume based on the physical measurement of the empty tanks dimensions. In hydrocarbon measurement and for large tanks, this method might be an optimum choice for operational reasons.
