Abstract: Manpower limitations have made it increasingly difficult for the Army and the Corps of Engineers to conduct traditional cathodic protection (CP) surveys on civil works and military infrastructure. Several companies manufacture remote monitoring units (RMUs) designed specifically to evaluate CP systems. The U. S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) conducted three field evaluations of CP RMUs over a five-year period. The objectives of the evaluations were to (1) evaluate commercially available CP RMUs to determine their suitability for Army and Corps of Engineers use, and (2) provide equipment selection and implementation guidance for Army installations and Corps districts.
