Abstract: The main objective of this paper is to present the present state of the art of reinforced and internally lubricated thermoplastics for use in reciprocating compressors. All plastics are divided into two classes, thermoplastics and thermosets, depending on the way each reacts under repeated conditions of heating and cooling. The name plastics is applied to a large and varied group of synthetic materials that are processed by molding or forming them to shape. Chemically, plastics are composed of chain-like molecules of high molecular weight, called polymers, that usually have been built up from simpler chemicals called monomers. A different monomer or combination of monomers is used to manufacture each different type or family of plastics.
