Title: Overpressure Protection Methods
Author: Joe Mullner

Abstract: THE PRESSURE REDUCING REGULATOR IN FIGURE 1 IS THE BASIC DEVICE USED TO REDUCE THE PRESSURE FROM A HIGH PRESSURE SOURCE SUCH AS A TRANSMISSION LIME TO A LOWER PRESSURE SUCH AS A DISTRIBUTION PIPING SYSTEM. THE REGULATOR HAS A HISTORY OF VERY RELIABLE SERVICE BUT, BECAUSE IT IS MECHANICAL, IT CAN FAIL. A REGULATOR CAN FAIL IN TWO WORST CASE CONDITIONS, WIDE OPEN OR FULLY CLOSED.
