Abstract: Advanced technology and methodology in the 1980s have made possible a very accurate and detailed chromatographic analysis of the heavy end (high boiling point) components found in natural gas and natural gas liquid products. Data from this type of analysis is used in product custody transfers, fractionation and refining processes, plant feasibility studies, etc. This paper will discuss the necessity for this heavy end characterization, the gas chromatographic techniques and instrumentation needed for such an analysis, and finally a brief explanation of some common problems experienced when attempting this type of analysis.
