Abstract: The recent implementation of polyethylene pipe at Northwest Natural Gas Company required many changes in installation methods, equipment, and material handling practices. The company benefited greatly from the expertise of other utilities when initially phasing in polyethylene. Since that time, the company has customized many of the methods and tools to meet its particular needs. This paper presents some of the ideas that Northwest Natural Gas Co. has implemented to improve the cost, productivity, and quality of polyethylene pipe installation.
