Abstract: Temperature is one of several critical variables that must be correctly measured to determine reliable natural gas quantities. This is especially true in custody transfer applications where even relatively small temperature measurement errors can have a large impact on the bottom line. The technical aspects of themnometiy in flow measurement can best be applied to practical situations by first understanding the relationship between temperature and the fundamental gas laws. These basic concepts may then be applied to the design, installation, and operation of temperature measurement equipment, and used in flow calculations.
