Abstract: Authority to establish regulatory requirements for gas meters and ancillary equipment in Canada derives from the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act. The major features of the legislation will be described. Linkages between the Canadian requirements and those established by other national and international standards-writing bodies will be highlighted. Canadian requirements, including recent initiatives respecting microprocessor-based metering devices, will be outlined in some detail.
