Abstract: Because you are in the gas business and aware of its problems, there obviously is no need to establish the fact that there is a shortage of natural gas available to the interstate pipeline companies and the distribution companies they serve. It seems obvious, also, that there is no necessity to document in detail the reasons why this shortage has developed. It is important to always remember, though, that the basic reason for the shortage is the extremely poor economic return generated by gas exploration and production programs where the gas produced goes to the interstate market. The shortage is a real and abiding thing that you contend with on a day-to-day basis.
