Abstract: Addressing itself to the measurement of quality of the output of a calibration laboratory as a concrete example, this paper may serve as a blueprint for comprehensive quality measurements of the output of any service organization. It shows how the degree of compliance to technical, legal, and contractual requirements can be measured in a calibration laboratory. Emphasis is on measuring the in-tolerance conditions of measuring instruments, the quality of labeling and identification, traceability, records, data, establishing recall dates. Resulting quality data identify trouble areas, operator weaknesses, etc. and indicate where corrective action may be required.
