Abstract: Custody transfer measurement of natural gas in Western Europe differs in several aspects from the basic measurement methodology in the U.S. The methods that are preeminent in Western Europe will be presented. This includes a brief description of turbine meters and densitometers, their calibration and installation, and the experlenre that has been obtained with these instruments in the field. Particular attention is given to a field operated compressibility factor meter. The micro processor based flow computer, replacing the chart recorder, will be discussed. Finally, some thoughts will be given on the continuous meas-ure-r ment of the heating value.
