Abstract: Nearby lightning caused extensive damage to computer control equipment at gas compressor stations. Sources of voltage surges were located, and equipment was selected and installed to dissipate energy before reaching computer. Selection criteria provided most suitable equipment installation criteria provided most effective operation. Lightning damage losses have been reduced. Testing of protective circuits should be included in planning.
