Abstract: T r a i n i n g of measurement p e r s o n n e l as well as a ll c l a s s i f i c a t i o n s has been a r e c o g n i z e d need at Northern and t h r o u g h o u t our i n d u s t r y from the e a r l y b e g i n n i n g . During the e a r l y y e a r s , t r a i n i n g was l a r g e l y the r e s u l t of working w i th t e c h n i c i a n s and g a i n i n g from t h o s e e x p e r i e n c e s. L a t e r , equipment s u p p l i e r s made some e f f o r ts t o t r a i n p e r s o n n e l on the equipment p u r c h a s ed by our v a r i o u s companies. These e f f o r t s were usually successful , however, they were limited because of the wide variety of equipment and by large geographic are as within organizational scopes.
