Abstract: The paper describes the first part of an intercomparison programme between the primary gas flow measurement facilities in the UK at NEL, East Kilbride and in the USSR at KF VNIIFTRI, Kazan. The transfer standards used for the intercomparison and the comparison criteria are described together with an account of the facilities and procedures used. The results of the initial tests show that the agreement between the, two facilities is within the uncertainty claimed for each facility, although anomalies exist which remain to be examined in the later stages of the programme.
