Title: Live Main Insertion

Abstract: Live main insertion is an evolution of the past revolutionary technology of insertion into abandoned facilities. The rationale behind using the annular space of a live carrier main to supply the gas to the customers that have yet to be changed over to the new system is not a revolutionary idea, but it is an idea that challenges our conservative ways of thinking. Do the following questions come to your mind as they did mine and to others around me: Is this new technology safe? Is this cost effective? Is the annular space adequate? Will the end seal process work? Will our work forces be able to coordinate their work with the contractors work? Will the hardware hold up? Is the process too complicated for reasonable execution and safety factors? Can we fall back to the traditional method, if this new technology is too demanding or fails?
