Title: Choosing The Right Power Splitter: Two-Resistor Or Three-Resistor
Author: Benny R. Smith

Abstract: Power splitters are frequently used in RF and microwave measurements. The two-resistor splitter is widely used and available. The three-resistor splitter is less common and is offered by fewer vendors. Both types have their place, but the two-resistor splitter has been the dominant choice, even when it is not the optimum choice. This paper will explore the differences between them and show how to decide which to use in order to minimize the measurement uncertainty contributed by the power splitter.
