Abstract: Advancements in metering technology, in particular gas and liquid ultrasonic meters, has greatly increased the range of applications and installation configurations, while reducing the uncertainty and improving installation effects immunity. The standard 5-10D, Flow Conditioner, 10D upstream, Meter and 5D downstream dimensions are being challenged by both meter and flow conditioner manufacturers. The modification and addition of paths has reduced upstream requirements and in some cases eliminated the need for flow conditioning. Users should be cautioned that test data from recognized facilities must substantiate these claims, tests ensure meters installed in these modified custody transfer applications perform within the specified uncertainty limits.
