Abstract: Flow meters used in custody transfer applications are calibrated prior to their final installation on site to determine their performance characteristics. For this purposes dedicated and approved calibration facilities are utilized like NMi, Trapil, SPSE and in future Euroloop. These facilities are originally designed for traditional measurement principles like PD and turbine meters, specifically related to the maximum flow rate. As a result the maximum flow rate which can be covered is 300 0 m3/hr. New technologies like ultrasonic flow meters are available in bigger diameters up to 36 and consequently are suitable to be used on flow rates up to 7000 m3/hr and in some cases even higher. As a result the above mentioned calibration facilities are not suitable to be used for the high flow rates specified.
