Abstract: SCADA systems have been an integral part of system operations at gas pipeline and distribution companies for two decades. Today, SCADA systems utilize sophisticated software, take advantage of powerful microprocessors in distributed architectures, and provide superb graphic displays to enhance the productivity of operations department dispatchers and engineers. These improvements have increased the value of SCADA systems in todays more complex business environment and provide capabilities well beyond the traditional supervisory control and data acquisition.
