Abstract: Competitive forces in the marketplace have generated the need at E. I. Du Pont for greater operating efficiency and improved quality control. Automatic warehousing, mechanized materials handhng, and electronic data collection systems have the potential for addressing these needs and are being implemented in many innovative applications across the country and around the world. Computer-based electronic identification systems are necessary to obtain efficient computerized control of work-inprogress, inventory management, and quality control.
