Abstract: This paper provides a brief history of the conversion of the Midland Nuclear facility to a combined cycle cogeneration (CCC) plant. It is the first conversion of a nuclear facility to a CCC plant and upon completion will be the largest such facility in the United States. The following phases of the conversion are addressed (I) the study to determine the available options (the Midland Options Study) (2) the formation of the company (the Midland Cogeneration Venture Limited Partnership) (3) the securing of a reliable fuel supply (4) key environmental issues and (5) construction and startup of the plant.
