Abstract: Since 1860 with the early discovery of oil in Pennsylvania, to its wildcat days in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, the loss of product due to leakage has been of concern to the pipeline industry. Today that concern has been taken up by the U. S. Government and Environmentalists as a great crusade. Pipelines have transported volatile and toxic materials for many years and have carried a safety record that is unmatched by any transportation method. This paper is meant to show how that record has been achieved through continuous seeking of better methods ot improving safety of operations for our employees and the public in general.
