Abstract: The requirement to have a continuous measurement of viscosity is being driven by the industrys desire to automate pipeline custody transfer metering and proving, the quest to initiate energy optimization programs and the need to minimize safety and environmental hazards related to obtaining and handling samples. Although laboratory techniques for viscosity measurement have existed for many years, the availability of rugged, on-line instrumentation for field measurement is recent.
