Abstract: This paper presents experiences in automation and the calibration lab. Hardware, software, and most importantly, the measurement process will be examined as it relates to the systems implemented by the calibration lab. Techniques in the adaptation of paper procedures to automated processes will be presented as well as consideration of the impact that the measurement process and measurement uncertainty can add to this procedure. With a little thought, some careful analysis, and the proper attitudes, automation can enhance the capabilities of any lab and the implementation challenges can be overcome with the minimum of headaches.
