Abstract: Unaccounted-for gas (UAF) is the difference between the quantity received into a system and the quantity delivered out over a specific period of lime. The restructuring of the natural gas industry, the increased competitiveness of natural gas, and the environmental significance of the emissions of methane have focused increased attention on UAF. Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) has conducted a comprehensive research project to evaluate UAF on its system. The project produced results and methodologies for the gas utility industry to use in taking the lead with regulatory agencies and with the energy industry regarding UAF. PG&Es operating UAF consists mainly of measurement and accounting-related elements.
