Abstract: This paper introduces the importance of considering gas system hydraulics when making decisions regarding main repair, replacement, or retirement. Equations are presented describing the nature of gas flow and the importance of key terms. In addition to considering the capacity of single mains, this paper outlines the impact of the repair/replace/retire decision on the total gas network.
