Abstract: Gas chromatography was invented over 100 years ago by a Russian scientist. In the late 1940ies and early 1950ies the gas chromatograph principle was further developed by German and American scientists into an important practical analytical instrument. It was then used as a laboratory piece of equipment and the laboratory engineer/technician would have the full responsibility and control of the operation of the equipment. Our business the offshore oil and gas business came a bit later. Our needs were connected to online sampling and analysis of natural gas. This was traditionally done by automatic sampling
