Abstract: S mma ry: This third paper in the Cal-Poly Biomedical Metrology Session logically fol ows t h e f i r s t t w o - one on comnercial nedical equiprnent metrology cant ractors, and the second on metrology in hsopitals and in the service of medicine both prinarily concerned with nedical hardware and services. This following paper will attempt to cover the broad field of tnedical e q u i p m e n t s o f t w a r e (that is, the manpower and paramedics necessary to actuate the instruments and interpret the records taken fro-n vital nedical equiplnent). Tine and space will permit only a quick overview of the technological and manpower problem facing the hospitals in the U.S.A., and in developing countries. Generous references wi 11 be given to other sources and papers on these paranedic and technical problem for the readers later review, even if only lightly touched upon in this paper presentat ion
