Abstract: Because of the Canadian Governments decision to adopt the internationally used metric system in Canada, TransCanada PipeLines had to similarly move to the use of the metric system in 1979. This paper describes TransCanadas objectives, how it handled the conversion of its computer programs, the alternatives available, and the information needed to convert. From the experience gained during the conversion some thoughts are presented on what could have been done differently for consideration by those who might be faced with the same challenge in the future.
