Abstract: The United States is the last major nation to undertake metrication. A background and rationale for metrication is presented with examples of changes already taking place in the U.S. economy. Also discussed are metric changes which will impact on the gas industry. The need for sound planning is emphasized as is the need to use metric units correctly.
