Abstract: The main purpose of simulation models within hydroc arbon allocation systems is to provide information regarding how hydrocarbons b ehave in a process plant. Allocation algorithms often include factors generat ed by these models. In calculating the uncertainty in the quantities alloc ated to each party in an allocation system, the uncertainty in the factors s upplied from a simulation has to be accounted for. The uncertainty in the measured q uantities is often known with a good degree of confidence but the available data regarding the uncertainty of, for example a shrinkage factor, is not known and ma y be arbitrarily assumed to be a value of say 5% or 10%
