Abstract: Results are reported from two GRI sponsored research projects for the development of odorant-measuring instruments to be used in the field. One project analytically explored the potential of piezoelectric crystals with a sorbent coating to selectively remove odorants from a stream of natural gas. In another proof-of-concept project, solid-state semiconductors, such as perovskites and metal oxides, were evaluated as potential selective sensors for odorants. Parameters such as sensitivity, precision, selectivity, and interferences were examined.
