Abstract: Dresser-Rand Company began development of an innovative VIP- or Valve-In-Piston design gas field, reciprocating compressor in September 1998. This paper outlines the design concepts, development work, laboratory and field testing, September 1994 commercial introduction, and field experience of the VIP Compressor to date.
