Abstract: Meter proving systems used in the petroleum industry range from fixed to mobile systems of varying sizes from conventional pipe provers and compact ballistic provers, to master-meter proving. Mastermeter proving systems use a reference turbine meter in lieu of a calibrated prover pipe volume. These systems are described in detail in API MPMS Chapter 4. To understand the role of flow computers within metering and proving systems it helps to understand basic theory and practices.
