Abstract: The on-line, or process, gas chromatograph is a sophisticated and highly automated instrument commonly used in natural gas analyses. This paper describes the chromatographic method for separating, measuring, and identifying gases, and explains how an on-line chromatograph differs from a laboratory model. Gas chromatography is the most widely used method of gas analysis employed in the market place today for good reason. The gas chromatograph is basically simple to use, maintenance and repairs are easily made, it is accurate and precise, and its down time is very low when compared to other instruments. The initial cost of the instrument can vary from five to forty thousand dollars depending on what data reduction accessories are included.
