Abstract: The concept of Flexible Manufacturing started in the United States many years ago and moved to Japan and Europe, who pioneered the basic principles. Now these concepts are being put into practice in the United States. This paper deals with an aspect of FMS which is now becoming quite popular, and that is the concept of AUTOMATED FL,EXIBLE METROLOGY. We are now starting to understand that an INDEPENDENT PROCESS VERIFIER is a key element in the success of an FMS.
