Abstract: Virginia Gas Pipeline Company (VGPC) is developing a high deliverability underground gas storage facility at Saltville in Southwest Virginia. Construction began in March, 1995. As part of Phase 1, an existing cavern that was originally created by Solution Salt Mining has been reentered and converted to use for gas storage for peak day requirements of customers. An 8 inch pipeline was laid to a connection point with El Paso Energy (E.T.N.G.). Debrining of the cavern commenced on August 29, 1996. Gas withdrawal commenced on November 12, 1996.
