Abstract: The reason for witnessing orifice meter calibration and field testing is to insure that the natural gas being sold, transported or traded is being accurately measured according to its actual quality and quantity. In the case of natural gas this involves verifying conditions and calibrating equipment to specified standards as outlined in AGA Report #3 and/or the gas contract. For orifice meter measurement of natural gas the meter tube and the orifice plate are the primary elements. The orifice meter (recorder) serves to record this source Information and start the process of accounting for natural gas moflng from one point to another. Another major variable in the amount of gas being measured is determined by the gas sample. Therefore, as a witness it Is necessary to insure these activities are being effectively performed.
