Abstract: The Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Incorporated has a gas distribution system that, if not unique in the industry, is at least as complex as any other gas system relative to exposure to stray currents. It is the purpose of this paper, using this gas system as an example, to discuss the effects Consolidated Edison is having at this time from stray currents and to discuss some effects that will become a reality in the near future. We will also go over some factors that we at Consolidated Edison are applying which will keep these effects at a controllable level. We feel that the basic premise to be discussed here could apply to any gas distribution system.
