Title: Pipe Stresses Due To Frost And New Methods For Frost Heaval Control

Abstract: The problem of frost heave control has been with the gas industry for a number of years. However, as broader pressure cuts, high-flow rates and adverse soil and water conditions converge, the problem is intensifying. This is evidenced by an abundance of material being published. Consumers Power Company has made a rather concentrated and effective attack on the problem during the last few years as a result we have a contribution to make to the general subject of frost heave control. We have attempted to tailor this paper to avoid repeating material that has been previously and adequately covered by Davis, Kempner and more recently by Yic. For this reason, this paper will not dwell on the mechanism of frost heaving in soil and will only briefly comment on the control methods of soil stabilization by chemical injection.
