Abstract: The proper control of surges in liquid pipelines has been a major concern of the pipeline industry for .tiany years. ARCO Transportation Co. and i t s predecessor company have developed surge control systems which have performed in an outstanding manner for twenty years. These control systems limit overshoots under the most severe surge conditions to approximately 10 psi based on full scale field tests.
