Abstract: The scope of this paper will be to present the progress made in Differential Pressure measurement over approximately the last one-hundred years. More specifically, the focus will be on the Primary Flow Element, rather than secondary or tertiary elements. Highlights will include new technologies which have improved measurement efficiency. Principles of Operation All of the devices presented here conform to the basic Bernoulli equation, which states that as the flow rate inside a pipe increases at a constriction, the pressure will decrease, yielding no net loss of energy:
