Abstract: This paper discusses the current status of the Automated Drafting System (ADS) at San Diego Gas & Electric, and a feasible approach to an expanded utilization of ADS equipment. The paper and the presentation will cover the following areas: 1. The current status of automated drafting at SDG&E. 2. The transition from automated drafting to a Facilities Information System (FIS). 3. Some examples of the applications and capabilities of a FIS. 4. An outline of economic factors to be considered when evaluating a FIS. 5. Conclusions.
